We live in a hyper-connected society fueled by information available to us over the Internet. Our computers, phones, tablets and even security cameras are all enabled by web connectivity. This abundance of information might feel liberating, but it also introduces a number of risks.

Cyber criminals work day in and day out developing invasive and somewhat invisible ways to access our computers and harvest our information. Although you might hear about the highest profile attacks in the media, the reality is that in most cases you will never know an attack occurred. (Someone could be watching your computer right now, yikes!)

But don’t sweat it. You can keep yourself protected if you follow these tips:

  1. Install an antivirus program that constantly scans your computer (Microsoft Security Essentials will do the job and it is free!)
  2. Keep your computer software up to date
  3. Do not download and install software from the web or email unless it is from a trusted source
  4. Backup your important files
